In the innovative field of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Italkrane is a pioneer in the design of highly specialized solutions.

With a keen eye on the maintenance needs of LNG tank pumps, we have developed a series of high precision lifting equipment, including hoists, winches and slewing cranes.

These are not mere tools, but indispensable allies in extremely demanding operating conditions, and guarantee the safety and efficiency of maintenance processes.

Pumps can be placed in tanks rising to an impressive height of up to 70 metres, requiring extremely careful handling. Such pumps are responsible for transferring Liquefied Natural Gas through a complex network of pipes, operating in extremely cold conditions, with temperatures as low as -161/-164°C.

When maintenance work needs to be performed, the pumps must be lifted precisely and carried out of the tank, using, in such a scenario, special lifting ropes permanently anchored to them and securely attached to hoist drums during handling.

The construction philosophy of our LNG hoists is driven by full customization. Each device is built to detailed technical specifications provided by system builders and EPC contractors, to perfectly fit the unique needs of each project.

Our top priority is safety, which is why we offer devices that comply with two distinct safety standards with solutions A and B.

Solution A

Safety Level A, the lowest, uses explosion-proof winches from the Italkrane GOUP wire rope lifting series, specifically designed for scheduled maintenance work on LNG plants. The modular principle makes it possible to satisfy several customer needs. The motorization of the winch can include a single motor-gearbox , controlled by an inverter, or two motors connected via a differential gearbox. The gearbox is then connected to a single drum, which directly accommodates the lifting cable permanently anchored to the LNG pump. Alternatively, the drum can be equipped with its own rope and provide a slot for a ferrule connecting to the pump rope.

Solution B

The LNG winch for Safety Level B is equipped with two separately operated motor-gearboxes, two wire rope drums, and two brakes. The brakes are designed so that each one is capable of braking or holding the load in an emergency. (emergency and parking brakes). Non-standard wire ropes, permanently connected to the pump, are secured to the LNG hoist drum by an optional quick-acting lock (ferrule). The lifting of the pump is performed connecting two load-bearing ropes, realizing a symmetric (true vertical) lift. Each rope is designed for the full capacity: in the unlikely event that one of the ropes breaks, the second one can support the load and continue lifting.
